Incoming class for women's soccer in 2022 is announced
The 2022 recruiting class for the University of Maine women's soccer team has been revealed by head coach Scott Atherley and his staff: Jessica Kasacek, Emma Schneider, Julie Lossius, Jordane Pinette, Madison Michaud, Amelia Ames, Gillian Rovers, and Rachel Ross.
Scott Atherley, head coach, stated, "We are thrilled to welcome the new members of our team to our family here at UMaine. They all exhibit the qualities of our team, and we have no doubt that they will have an influence on the playing field, the classroom, and the neighborhood.
A goalkeeper from Canterbury, Connecticut, Jessica Kasacek, who is 5'8", transferred from West Virginia University. Over the course of her two seasons in Morgantown, she worked as a backup for the Mountaineers. Jessica participated in a club soccer career with Oakwood Soccer Club.
She began 32 games in the U-16/17 program and 19 games for the U-18/19 club of her club. From 2015 through 2017, Jessica's performance in goal contributed to Connecticut FC winning the State Cup.
5'9" Emma Schneider "From Florida Gulf Coast University, a defender from Calgary, Alberta, transferred. She played in four games during her two years at FGCU and is Myla Schneider's sister. Her team placed seventh at the National Youth Championships of Canada Soccer during the 2019 club season. Emma co-captained her club team and won the 2018–19 Hardest Working Player and Most Consistent Player trophies from the Canada Soccer Regional Excel program.
5'8" Rachel Ross "From Rider University, a goalkeeper from Yorktown Heights, New York, transferred. During her two years in New Jersey, she participated in six games.
In her 456 minutes of playing time, Rachel concluded the 2021 season with a 2.57 GAA, a.618 save percentage, 21 saves, and one victory.
"Three out of the eight joined us as transfers in January and participated in the spring season. Their effect was felt right away." Coach Atherley continued, "We have reinforced the goalkeeper position to the point where we have three players who can start thanks to the additions of Jess and Rachel. Emma has given our back line a crucial attacking dimension that will make our build up less predictable. She is extremely athletic and tenacious both when in possession and outside of it."
5'8" Julie Lossius "During her high school career, forward from Kristiansand, Norway, played for Kristiansand Katedralskole Gimle. Julie has two clubs, Randesund IL and Amazon Grimstad FK. Her club squad won the Sr Cup in 2019, placed second in the Barcelona Girls Club in 2019, won the League Championship during the 2019–20 season, and advanced to the semifinals of the 2018 Adidas National competition.
5'4" Jordane Pinette "striker from Thetford Mines, Quebec's Polyvalente Black Lake. After taking home the Quebec Provincial Championship that same year, she earned a silver medal in the Canadian Championship in 2021. Every year of her high school and CEGEP career, Jordane was the team's top scorer.
We have acquired three powerful attackers up front, according to coach Atherley, who was reported as saying. At all levels, Jordane has been a prolific goal scorer and is swift and explosive." Both the 9 and 10 places are open for Julie. Her spatial awareness and gaming sense are top notch. She received the highest ratings among her team's field players in Norway. At our level, her prior experience participating in the second-highest professional league would be quite helpful. Gillian is a formidable individual. Her physical attributes, together with her stature, will make her feel quite at home in the America East Conference. She can play back and face the goal with sturdiness and effectiveness."
A 5'5" midfielder from Gorham High School in Gorham, Maine, Madison Michaud was selected to the state of Maine all-star squad three years in a row (2019–2021) and was chosen All-Conference each of her four years at Gorham. During her final three seasons, Madison ranked first on her high school team in scoring. Her 4X100 relay team won the Class "A" State Track and Field Championship under her leadership as well.
Amelia Ames, a 5'8" midfielder from Greensboro, North Carolina's Northern Guilford High School, helped her team win four consecutive conference championships. Amelia's outstanding performance in the classroom earned her the title of senior scholar athlete of the year.
Maddie is a speedy and talented midfielder. She is versatile because of her composure on the ball as well as her quickness and vision, according to coach Atherley. She might play a variety of roles for us this season, in my opinion. Amelia has a lot of potential. She is a speedy player who understands how to shift the ball with long-range passes. I can't wait to watch her battle against our seasoned players."
A 5'9" midfielder from St. Mary's Kitchener in Kitchener, Ontario, Gillian Rovers participated in the Provincial Championship while helping her team to an unbeaten record in her last season. Additionally, she excelled academically throughout her four years of high school.
At Mahaney Diamond, the 2022 campaign gets underway on August 21 versus St. Peter's University. The whole schedule is available here Sports View.
